Billie Eilish's Grammy-winning 2019 debut, made with her brother Finneas in his bedroom: "bad guy," "bury a friend," "when the party's over" and "xanny."
When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? went to No. 1 in the US and the UK, "bad guy" topped the Hot 100, and at 18 Billie Eilish swept the Grammys, including Album of the Year.
Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell made her debut album at home, in Finneas' small bedroom studio in Los Angeles, and that intimacy is all over it: whispered vocals right up against the mic, bass that rattles your ribs, dental drills, horror-movie sound effects and some of the sharpest pop songwriting of its decade.
It's a record about night terrors, anxiety, heartbreak and being 17, and it somehow manages to be both genuinely creepy and endlessly catchy. "bad guy" became a worldwide No. 1, "when the party's over" and "i love you" show off how gorgeous her voice is when everything else drops away, and the album won Album of the Year at the Grammys, making Billie the youngest artist ever to win it at the time.
