![Big Star: #1 Record [CRAFT / ARDENT]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/33630544/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-big-star-1-record-craft-ardent.jpg)
Big Star's power pop masterpiece #1 Record from 1972, with Alex Chilton and Chris Bell: "Thirteen," "The Ballad of El Goodo," "In the Street" and "Feel."
#1 Record sold poorly at first but became one of rock's great cult classics, a blueprint for power pop and alternative rock adored by generations of musicians.
Recorded in Memphis at Ardent Studios, the debut pairs the Beatles-inspired melodies and chiming guitars of Alex Chilton and Chris Bell with Andy Hummel and Jody Stephens's punchy rhythm section and gorgeous harmonies.
"Thirteen" is one of the sweetest songs about young love ever written, "The Ballad of El Goodo" is soaring and defiant, "In the Street" rocks (and later became a TV theme), and "Feel" and "Watch the Sunrise" glow.
Number one, eventually and deservedly.
