About the album

Beatopia is the name beabadoobee gave to an imaginary world she dreamed up as a child, and her second album is her way of moving back in. After the grunge-leaning guitars of Fake It Flowers, the Philippine-born, London-raised songwriter widened the map: bossa nova, folk, dreamy indie pop and the odd wall of fuzz all get a corner of the kingdom.

"Beatopia Cultsong" opens the gates with a hazy chant, "10:36" and "Talk" bring the bright, hooky guitar rock, and "See You Soon" floats on a psychedelic shimmer. "Lovesong" and "Pictures Of Us" open side B in a soft, starry haze. Cavetown guests elsewhere on the album too. "The Perfect Pair" sways with an easy bossa nova lilt, "Ripples" and "Fairy Song" go soft and acoustic, and "Tinkerbell Is Overrated" pairs her with PinkPantheress for a sly, sugary duet.

NME heard the seeds planted on Fake It Flowers blossom and take root in a whole new world, and Kerrang! praised its extra diversity and complexity. It's a fine place to visit, and we're told the visa requirements are a turntable and about forty minutes.
