Alicia Keys' 2001 debut Songs in A Minor as a 10th anniversary 2LP set on 180g vinyl, with "Fallin'," "A Woman's Worth" and "Girlfriend."
This remastered 10th anniversary 2LP set on 180g vinyl was the album's first vinyl edition. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and won five Grammys, tying the record for a woman in a single night.
Alicia Keys started writing these songs at 14, and by the time she finished them she was already a classically trained pianist with a clear idea of who she wanted to be. Clive Davis heard it, signed her, and brought the album out on his new J Records in June 2001.
Keys wrote, arranged and produced most of it herself, often with Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, fusing classical piano with R&B, soul, jazz, hip hop, blues and gospel. "Piano & I" opens with a nod to her conservatory chops, "Fallin'" became a worldwide No. 1 hit, "A Woman's Worth" reached the US top 10, and "How Come You Don't Call Me" reworks a Prince deep cut. Jermaine Dupri and Kandi Burruss lend a hand along the way, and the album ends with the reflective "Caged Bird" and "Lovin U."
The record was a sleeper hit overseas before becoming one of the best-selling albums of 2001 worldwide, and it set up a career that's still going strong. For the record, just two of the songs are in A minor, so we'd suggest not using it to tune a piano.
