Adele's 2008 debut album, made when she was a teenager: "Chasing Pavements," "Hometown Glory," "Make You Feel My Love" and "Daydreamer."
19 debuted at No. 1 in the UK, won Adele the Grammy for Best New Artist and introduced one of the greatest voices of her generation. "Chasing Pavements" won a Grammy too.
Adele Adkins was fresh out of the BRIT School when a demo posted on MySpace landed her a deal with XL Recordings. She named her debut after the age she was when she wrote most of it, and it's a remarkably assured first album: classic soul, jazz and folk-pop, all built around that big, warm, astonishing voice.
"Hometown Glory," written when she was just 16, is a stunning love letter to London, "Chasing Pavements" and "Cold Shoulder" are soulful and sharp, and her cover of "Make You Feel My Love" has become a modern standard. The start of something huge.
