Yeah Yeah Yeahs' 2006 second album Show Your Bones, a 20th anniversary indie exclusive on yellow, purple & orange marble vinyl: "Gold Lion," "Cheated Hearts" and "Turn Into."
This 20th anniversary edition swirls three colours into one marble pressing and comes with a printed inner sleeve. The album reached No. 7 in the UK and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
Following up a debut as loud and loved as Fever to Tell is a tricky business, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs met it by binning their first batch of new songs in early 2005 and starting again. Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase wrote in Los Angeles, then recorded that summer at Dave Sitek's Stay Gold Studios in Williamsburg, with Squeak E. Clean producing and Alan Moulder mixing.
The sound is bigger and stranger than before, with acoustic guitars, piano and moody textures woven into the art-punk crackle. "Gold Lion" stomps in on a chant and a strum, "Cheated Hearts" is a pure rush (NME rated it among the best songs of 2006), "Turn Into" closes with a lift, and "Phenomena" and "Honeybear" keep the edge sharp.
NME named it the second-best album of 2006. Before it came out, a rumour went round that it was a concept album about Karen O's cat called Coco Beware; the cat, we understand, has never commented.
