Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the most acclaimed albums of the 21st century, a landmark that blended Americana with experimental, noisy, beautiful studio textures.
Jeff Tweedy and Wilco took their alt-country roots somewhere new on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, layering warm, classic songwriting with radio static, drones, chimes and unexpected sonic detours, with mixing help from Jim O'Rourke. The band famously streamed it on their own website before Nonesuch picked it up.
"I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" opens with gorgeous, clattering ambition, "Kamera" and "Heavy Metal Drummer" are sunny pop gems, "Jesus, Etc." is one of Tweedy's finest songs, and "Poor Places" and "Reservations" end the album in lovely, drifting style.
