The White Stripes' 2005 fifth album Get Behind Me Satan as a 2LP set on 180g vinyl, with "Blue Orchid," "My Doorbell" and "The Denial Twist."
This 180g 2LP set comes in a tip-on gatefold jacket with a liner notes insert. Get Behind Me Satan won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, reached No. 3 in the US, the UK and Canada, and went platinum here.
Fresh off the global smash of Elephant, Jack White mostly put down the electric guitar. Recorded in about two weeks at his home in Detroit's Indian Village on an 8-track tape machine, Get Behind Me Satan leans on piano, marimba, mandolin and acoustic guitar, with Meg White adding bells, maracas and tambourine to her drums. A rented Steinway grand gave the piano songs extra weight.
"Blue Orchid" was cut near the end of the sessions, and Jack said it saved the album: a falsetto-howling, fuzz-drenched riff that let fans know the band hadn't gone soft. "The Nurse" sets a Musser marimba against sudden crashing drums, "My Doorbell" is a stomping piano-pop single that earned its own Grammy nomination, and "The Denial Twist" bounces along on that big piano. "Little Ghost" is a tiny bluegrass hoedown, and "I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)" closes on a quiet piano.
Jack said every song on the album is about truth, with Rita Hayworth as its recurring muse. The whole thing reportedly cost under $10,000 to make, which is slightly less than we've spent over the years on replacement shop speakers.
