Wet Leg: Wet Leg [DOMINO]

Why you'll love it

Wet Leg won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, topped the charts in the UK and Australia and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. "Chaise Longue" is still one of the most gleefully deadpan singles of the decade.

This edition

• Single LP, 12 tracks

About the album

Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers met at college on the Isle of Wight, started a band as a lark, and recorded their debut album before they'd even played a proper gig. Then "Chaise Longue" happened. The deadpan, double-entendre-stuffed single went viral in the summer of 2021, and suddenly two friends who'd been making music for fun were the most talked-about new band in Britain.

The album that followed, produced by Dan Carey of Speedy Wunderground fame, is a riot: wiry post-punk guitars, sing-along choruses and lyrics that skewer bad boyfriends, bad parties and the general absurdity of being in your late twenties. "Wet Dream," "Angelica" and "Ur Mum" (with its legendary scream) all deliver. It's funny, it's catchy, and it's much smarter than it lets on.
