About the album

U2 spent the 1990s taking their earnest Joshua Tree image apart piece by piece, then the 2000s quietly putting the good bits back. This set covers the whole adventure, from the Berlin reinvention of Achtung Baby through Zooropa and Pop to the comeback of All That You Can't Leave Behind.

"One," "Mysterious Ways," "Until the End of the World" and "Even Better Than the Real Thing" carry the Achtung Baby years, "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" and "Numb" bring Zooropa, and "Beautiful Day" and "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" mark the return to big, open-hearted rock. Mike Hedges remixed "Gone," "Discothèque," "Staring at the Sun" and "Numb" for the set, and "Miss Sarajevo," written with Brian Eno and originally credited to Passengers, is here too.

Two songs were new: "Electrical Storm" (in William Orbit's mix) and the Gangs of New York theme The Hands That Built America, plus the non-album single "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" from Batman Forever. A decade of reinvention on four sides, and not a single pair of fly shades required to play it.
