The Tragically Hip's 2012 album Now for Plan A, with "At Transformation," "Streets Ahead" and the title track featuring Sarah Harmer.
This pressing comes with a printed inner sleeve and the lyrics, handy for a Gord Downie record. The album debuted at No. 3 in Canada, went gold, and earned a Juno nomination for Rock Album of the Year.
Twelve albums in, most bands settle into a groove. The Hip went back to work in their own backyards instead, recording at Noble Street Studios in Toronto and the band's Bathouse studio near Kingston with producer Gavin Brown, then taking the tapes to Electric Lady in New York to be mixed.
Gord Downie, Rob Baker, Paul Langlois, Gord Sinclair and Johnny Fay keep it lean and punchy. "At Transformation" kicks the door open, "Streets Ahead" is a big, bright rocker, "Man Machine Poem" broods beautifully, and Sarah Harmer adds her voice to "The Lookahead" and the title track. "Goodnight Attawapiskat" closes things with Downie at his most pointed and poetic.
It also gave the band their highest-ever placing on the Billboard 200, proof that America was still catching up. The artwork credits include a back cover titled Swet Susquehanna and a side named Bernoulli's Principle, so do bring a dictionary as well as a turntable.
