Diamond-selling 1989 debut album from the Tragically Hip, a Canadian classic: "Blow at High Dough," "New Orleans Is Sinking," "Boots or Hearts" and "38 Years Old."
Up to Here is where the Hip became Canada's band. It sold over a million copies here, earned them a Juno, and "New Orleans Is Sinking" and "Blow at High Dough" are still on the radio every single day.
Five friends from Kingston, Ontario, a bar band with a singer who wrote like a poet and moved like nobody else. On their first full-length album, Gord Downie, Rob Baker, Paul Langlois, Gord Sinclair and Johnny Fay headed to Memphis with producer Don Smith and came back with a rough, swaggering, bluesy rock record that sounds like a great night out at the Horseshoe.
"Blow at High Dough" and "New Orleans Is Sinking" became instant anthems, "38 Years Old" is one of Downie's great storytelling songs, and "Boots or Hearts" and "Opiated" round out a record with no filler. Up to Here went diamond in Canada and kicked off one of the most beloved careers in Canadian music. Every home should have a copy.
