![Toots & the Maytals: In the Dark [MUSIC ON VINYL]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/39826929/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-toots-the-maytals-in-the-dark-music-on-v.jpg)
Toots & the Maytals' joyous 1974 album In the Dark: "Time Tough," "54-46" (re-recorded), "Got to Be There" and their reggae "Take Me Home, Country Roads."
In the Dark finds Toots Hibbert's gospel-fired voice at its most electrifying, a feel-good reggae classic from the band that gave the genre its name.
Issued on Chris Blackwell's Dragon label, the album blends roots reggae, ska, soul and gospel with the Maytals' warm harmonies and Toots's raw, Otis Redding-like intensity.
"Time Tough" is a stirring anthem, "Got to Be There" is sweet soul, their reggae take on "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is pure delight, and "54-46" returns with all its fire.
Toots Hibbert's gospel-fired voice at its most electric. In the dark, shining.
