![The xx: xx [YOUNG TURKS / XL]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/52298690/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-the-xx-xx-young-turks-xl.jpg)
Mercury Prize-winning 2009 debut from the xx, all whispers, space and heartbeat bass: "Intro," "Crystalised," "VCR" and "Islands."
xx won the 2010 Mercury Prize and became one of the most influential debuts of its generation. "Intro" alone has soundtracked a thousand films, TV shows and late-night drives.
Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith were teenagers from south London when they recorded xx in a tiny studio at XL Recordings, and they made a virtue of restraint. Jamie's sparse beats and Romy's chiming guitar leave plenty of room for the hushed boy-girl vocals, and the result is intimate, sensual and utterly distinctive.
"Intro" is a modern classic, "Crystalised" and "VCR" are perfect late-night love songs, and "Islands," "Heart Skipped a Beat" and "Shelter" are just as gorgeous. Its influence is still everywhere in pop, R&B and indie music.
