![The National: Boxer [BEGGARS BANQUET]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/33149268/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-the-national-boxer-beggars-banquet.jpg)
Indie rock classic from 2007, the National's breakthrough Boxer: "Fake Empire," "Mistaken for Strangers," "Slow Show" and "Apartment Story."
Boxer turned the National into one of indie rock's most beloved bands. "Fake Empire" soundtracked Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, and the album appears on countless best-of-the-decade lists.
The National's fourth album is where everything clicked: Matt Berninger's warm, wry baritone, the Dessner twins' elegant guitars and arrangements, and Bryan Devendorf's propulsive, inventive drumming. Sufjan Stevens even pops up on piano.
"Fake Empire" opens with that unforgettable cascading piano, "Mistaken for Strangers" and "Apartment Story" surge forward, and "Slow Show," "Green Gloves" and "Ada" are gorgeous slow-burners. A record that grows richer with every listen.
