Stereo mix of the Beach Boys' 1966 masterpiece Pet Sounds, Brian Wilson's symphony to the teenage heart: "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows" and "Caroline, No."
Pet Sounds is one of the most influential albums ever made: Brian Wilson's lush, orchestral answer to Rubber Soul, which in turn inspired Sgt. Pepper. "God Only Knows" might be the most beautiful pop song ever written. This is the stereo mix.
While the rest of the Beach Boys were out on tour in 1966, Brian Wilson stayed home and set out to make the greatest album ever. With lyricist Tony Asher and LA's finest session players (the Wrecking Crew), he layered pianos, harpsichords, bicycle bells, French horn, bass harmonica and even barking dogs under those famous harmonies, chasing a sound only he could hear.
The songs are about growing up and falling in and out of love, and they're devastatingly lovely: "Wouldn't It Be Nice" bursts with optimism, "God Only Knows" is pure grace, "Sloop John B" swings, and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" and "Caroline, No" are heartbreaking. Paul McCartney has called it a huge influence on Sgt. Pepper. Essential for any collection.
