About the album

Ruby da Cherry and $crim are cousins from the 7th Ward of New Orleans, and together they make up the influential rap group $uicideboy$. With a massive cult following in the underground scene and collaborations with artists like Pouya, Germ and Denzel Curry, they had already put out a vast amount of music on SoundCloud. I Want to Die in New Orleans is their debut studio album, though it's their 43rd project overall.

$crim produced the entire album, with Juicy J, the group's mentor and executive producer, co-producing "Phantom Menace." The album sets a dark trap backdrop with heavy bass, rolling hi-hats and unconventional samples like news clips and PSAs from around New Orleans. The BOY$ tackle depression and addiction head on, yet the tracks are energetic, with fans likely to mosh to songs like "122 Days," "Carrollton," "Krewe Du Vieux (Comedy & Tragedy)" and "War Time All The Time."

The closer, "I No Longer Fear The Razor Guarding My Heel (IV)," is the fourth chapter of the duo's long-running EP series, and Bones turns up uncredited on "F*** The Industry." Forty-two projects is a fair bit of rehearsal for a debut; most of us need about that many attempts at a decent cup of tea.
