Remastered 180g edition of Steely Dan's 1972 debut: "Do It Again," "Reelin' in the Years," "Dirty Work" and "Midnite Cruiser."
Can't Buy a Thrill introduced Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's smart, jazzy, sardonic rock to the world, and "Do It Again" and "Reelin' in the Years" both went Top 20 in the US. This edition is remastered on 180g vinyl.
Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were New York songwriters for hire when producer Gary Katz brought them out to Los Angeles, and they wound up putting together a band so they could record their own songs. Their debut sounds like nobody else in 1972: latin grooves, jazz chords, killer guitar solos and lyrics full of losers, gamblers and con men.
"Do It Again" (with Denny Dias' electric sitar solo) and "Reelin' in the Years" (with Elliott Randall's blazing guitar) became radio staples, while David Palmer sings the gorgeous "Dirty Work" and "Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me)." Steely Dan would get slicker and more famous, but this is where the cool started. This remastered pressing is on 180g vinyl.
