About the album

By 2000 the Spice Girls had grown up, and so had pop. After early sessions at Abbey Road with longtime collaborators Richard Stannard and Matt Rowe, the four-piece changed course and headed for American R&B, working with Rodney Jerkins and with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to give Forever a sleeker, more grown-up sound. Recording stretched from Abbey Road to Whitfield Street in London, fitted in around tours and Mel C's solo debut, Northern Star.

"Holler" made its debut on their Christmas in Spiceworld shows and arrives on a slinky, stop-start beat, while "Let Love Lead the Way" is a soaring ballad. "Tell Me Why," "Weekend Love" and "If You Wanna Have Some Fun" carried the R&B direction as promo singles, "Right Back at Ya" grooves along, and the album closes with "Goodbye," their 1998 Christmas single and another UK No. 1.

Fans picked the title themselves, voting in a poll on the group's website in August 2000. Twenty-five years on, the voters have been proved right, which is more than we can say for most of the shop's own polls.
