About the album

The title is an acronym for "Be Really Energetic And Dance," which is about as clear a mission statement as an album has ever carried. Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern spent roughly two years making it, and the result is ten tracks of globe-trotting, sun-soaked house music.

Hawley-Weld grew up partly in Port Perry, Ontario, before falling for Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language, and you can hear that love all over the record. "Hey Homie" folds bossa nova into drum and bass, "Jacaré" and "Cafuné," the latter with Channel Tres, lean into Brazilian sounds, and "Woof" brings in Kah-Lo. "Goddess in Disguise" features MC Bola, "Throw Some Ass" is pure, unapologetic hip-shaking, and "Guardian Angel (Stand By You)" and "Perfect Someone" add warmth to the night.

The duo met at Brown University in 2014, where Halpern, a former basketball captain, approached Hawley-Weld after one of her performances, and the pair soon moved to New York City; their first EP, Soft Animals, followed in 2016. He traded the court for the dance floor, which has worked out rather better for the rest of us.
