About the album

The Smashing Pumpkins' second album was made under ridiculous pressure. Billy Corgan, battling writer's block and depression, holed up in Atlanta with producer Butch Vig (fresh from Nevermind) and, by most accounts, played most of the guitar and bass parts himself, layering track upon track until the guitars sounded like a wall of fuzz and sky.

It paid off spectacularly. Siamese Dream arrived in July of 1993 and became one of the defining records of the decade: the cascading riffs of "Cherub Rock," the deceptively sunny "Today," the orchestral heartbreak of "Disarm" and the long, swirling dream of "Mayonaise" and "Soma." It debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, went seven times platinum and turned the Pumpkins into one of the biggest alternative bands in the world. This 2LP pressing gives every one of those layers room to breathe.
