About the album

Rihanna made Unapologetic between June and November 2012, while she was still out promoting Talk That Talk. As executive producer she called in old friends The-Dream, David Guetta, Chase & Status and Stargate, and new ones including Mike Will Made It, Labrinth and Parker Ighile.

The result folds pop, synth-pop and R&B together with hip hop, EDM, dubstep, rock and reggae, pulling together threads from Rated R, Loud and Talk That Talk. "Diamonds" is a slow, shimmering anthem that went to No. 1 in the UK and on the Hot 100, her twelfth chart-topper there. "Stay" strips everything back to piano and two voices, "Pour It Up" is all low-end swagger, and "Jump" and "Numb" bring the club. The album went on to top the charts in the UK, Norway and Switzerland too, and the IFPI counted it among the ten best-selling albums in the world in 2012.

She launched it with the 777 Tour, seven shows in seven cities in seven days across North America and Europe, then took it round the world on the Diamonds World Tour. That's a schedule most of us would need a lie-down just reading.
