Pixies' 1988 debut album Surfer Rosa, produced by Steve Albini: "Where Is My Mind?," "Gigantic," "Bone Machine" and "Cactus."
Surfer Rosa is one of the most influential alternative rock albums ever made, and Kurt Cobain famously cited it as a blueprint for Nevermind.
Recorded in Boston with Steve Albini in just a couple of weeks, Surfer Rosa captures Pixies' unique mix of loud-quiet dynamics, surf guitar, Spanish lyrics and Black Francis' unhinged howl, with Kim Deal's sweet harmonies and Joey Santiago's jagged guitar adding magic.
"Where Is My Mind?" is a haunting classic made even more famous by Fight Club, "Gigantic" is Kim Deal's glorious moment in the spotlight, "Bone Machine" kicks off with Albini's huge drum sound, and "Cactus" and "River Euphrates" are quirky gems.
