About the album

!K7's DJ-Kicks series has been handing the decks to the world's best selectors since the 1990s, and in 2019 it was Peggy Gou's turn. The Berlin-based South Korean DJ and producer was already one of the most in-demand names in house music, and she used the invitation to share the records that shaped her.

She opens with her own "Hungboo (DJ-Kicks)," made for the series, then wanders through "Vampirella," "Perseguido Por El Rayo" and "Cassette Jam 1993" before Andrew Weatherall's Soul Of Europe mix of "The World According To Sly & Lovechild" takes things somewhere deeper. "Epirus" and "Crackdown" keep the pulse up on the third side, and "Pert" and "Vordhosbn" close it out on a more cerebral note.

It holds a 78 on Metacritic and became the second compilation in the series to crack the Top 10 of that chart, after Moodymann's. Mixed for a dance floor, it also works very nicely in a kitchen at about half eleven, should anyone ask.
