Pantera's 1992 groove metal landmark Vulgar Display of Power on white & true metal gray marble vinyl, with "Walk," "Mouth for War" and "This Love."
This limited Rhino pressing comes on white & true metal gray marble vinyl. Vulgar Display of Power is Pantera's best-selling album, certified double platinum, and "Walk" became one of metal's most recognizable riffs.
Pantera went into Pantego Sound Studio in Texas in 1991 with one clear goal: make something heavier than Cowboys from Hell. With producer Terry Date back behind the desk, and just three songs demoed beforehand, they wrote most of the album right there in the studio.
Midway through the sessions they took a break to open for Metallica and AC/DC at the Monsters of Rock show at Moscow's Tushino airfield in September 1991, then came home and finished the job. Phil Anselmo's bark, Dimebag Darrell's razor-edged riffs, Rex Brown's bass and Vinnie Paul's drums lock together on "Mouth for War" and "A New Level," "Walk" struts with a riff everyone knows, "F***ing Hostile" goes full throttle, and "This Love" and "Hollow" show off the band's heavy, brooding side. "Regular People (Conceit)" and "No Good (Attack the Radical)" were two of the three songs demoed before Date arrived.
It peaked within the top 50 of the Billboard 200 and set the template for a whole wave of groove metal in the 1990s. Thirty-odd years on, it remains the album most likely to explain why the neighbours have started knocking on the wall.
