Oasis's 1997 third album as a remastered 2LP set, with "D'You Know What I Mean?," "Stand by Me" and "All Around the World."
This 2016 Big Brother reissue is a remastered heavyweight 2LP set in a gatefold jacket, with a download code that adds rarities and the Mustique demos. It became the fastest-selling album in British chart history and topped the charts in 15 countries.
Most bands write their third album in a rehearsal room. Noel Gallagher wrote most of this one on holiday in Mick Jagger's villa on Mustique, after the Knebworth summer, when Oasis were the biggest band in Britain by a distance and had 250,000 people a night to prove it.
Noel and Owen Morris produced it across Abbey Road, Ridge Farm and three other studios, piling on guitar overdubs because Noel wanted it to sound colossal. "D'You Know What I Mean?" opens the album at full widescreen scale, "Stand by Me" and "Don't Go Away" are big-hearted singalongs, "The Girl in the Dirty Shirt" swaggers, and "All Around the World" grows into a full orchestral send-off, reprise and all. It's also the first Oasis album with Alan White on drums from start to finish, and the last with Bonehead and Guigsy in the lineup.
Two of its singles went to No. 1 in the UK, and it was Britain's biggest seller of 1997. Liam has called it his favourite Oasis album, and we have learned, over the years, not to argue with Liam.
