NOFX: Pump Up the Valuum [EPITAPH]

Why you'll love it

This Epitaph LP brings back the album that capped NOFX's long run on the label in 2000. It's the band at full tilt, fast, melodic and very funny, with "Dinosaurs Will Die" and "Bottles To The Ground" among their best-loved songs.

About the album

The opening song on Pump Up the Valuum is called "And Now For Something Completely Similar," a nod to Monty Python, and it starts so much like Linoleum, the opener of Punk in Drublic, that the band sing about it in the lyrics. That tells you most of what you need to know about NOFX in 2000: sharp, self-aware and having a great time.

Fat Mike, El Hefe, Eric Melvin and Smelly tear through fourteen songs of skate punk with hooks to spare. "Dinosaurs Will Die" takes aim at the music business, "Thank God It's Monday" and "Total Bummer" bounce along, "Bottles To The Ground" is a full-throated singalong, and "Theme From A NOFX Album" closes things in style.

It came out on Epitaph, the label run by Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz. They called the first song completely similar, and they were being modest.
