About the album

Metric introduced Pagans in Vegas one song at a time, and for "Too Bad, So Sad" they built their own app to do it. The Pagan Portal let fans hear new tracks as they arrived and read notes from the band, a neat fit for a Toronto group that has run its own label, Metric Music International, for years. Emily Haines, James Shaw, Josh Winstead and Joules Scott-Key had been at it together since the early 2000s, and the album arrived on September 18, 2015.

"The Shade," their first new song in nearly three years, came out that May, followed by "Cascades" and its slick synths, then "Too Bad, So Sad," "Fortunes" and "The Governess." The album leans into synth-pop and electronics more than ever, with "Lie Lie Lie" kicking things off and the two-part "The Face" closing the fourth side on a long, cinematic fade. "Celebrate" and "For Kicks" keep the dance floor busy in between.

A band that builds its own app to share new songs has clearly never tried to get our card reader working on a Saturday.
