MDC's 1982 hardcore debut in Beer City's Millennium edition on white vinyl, 14 songs in about 20 minutes in the original mix.
This Millennium edition restores and remasters the album and keeps the original mix, here on white vinyl. Kurt Cobain listed it among his 50 favourite albums.
Hardcore bands of the early 80s kept things short. MDC came up from Texas, recorded this debut in Houston in December 1981 with producer Geza X, and put it out themselves in February 1982: 14 songs, a shade over 20 minutes.
Dave Dictor's bark leads the charge, with Ron Posner on guitar, Franco Mares on bass and Al Schvitz on drums. "Business on Parade" and "Born to Die" set the pace, "Corporate Deathburger" barely pauses for breath, and "My Family Is a Little Weird" and "I Hate Work" bring a sense of humour to the fury. "Violent Rednecks" is over in under forty seconds, and "I Remember" and "Kill the Light" show a band that could play as tight as it played fast. "American Achievements" closes the record at just over two minutes.
It's long been counted among the great American hardcore records, and Beer City first brought back the original mix for Record Store Day 2014. "I Hate Work" lasts under a minute, which is roughly how long the staff here can stay angry about anything.
