About the album

Most artists announce an album months ahead. Little Simz gave everyone less than a week, revealing the track list, cover and producer on December 10, 2022, and putting No Thank You out two days later on her own independent label, Forever Living Originals. A ten-minute short film followed four days after that.

Longtime collaborator Inflo produced, with Cleo Sol singing backing vocals, and the sound folds gospel, soul, funk and Afrobeat into hip hop. Inflo's arrangements, full of choral voices and swelling strings, have drawn comparisons to David Axelrod and Charles Stepney. "Angel" opens quietly, "Gorilla" rides a Jurassic 5 bassline, "Silhouette" builds to a big orchestral finish, "No Merci" whirrs with synths, and "Control," the piano-led closer, is about falling in love.

It's ten songs in just under fifty minutes, coming hot on the heels of Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, and critics praised its emotional depth, smooth production and the quality of her writing. The title is also the most British way to decline something we've ever heard, and we've been using it on sales reps ever since.
