Led Zeppelin's 1970 third album, remastered by Jimmy Page: "Immigrant Song," "Since I've Been Loving You," "Gallows Pole" and "That's the Way."
Led Zeppelin III is where the band brought acoustic folk to the fore without losing their thunder. "Immigrant Song" is one of rock's great openers and "Since I've Been Loving You" one of its greatest blues. This pressing uses Jimmy Page's 2014 remaster.
After two albums of sledgehammer blues-rock, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant retreated to Bron-Yr-Aur, a little cottage in the Welsh hills with no electricity, and came back with a bag of acoustic songs. Recorded at Headley Grange with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, plus sessions at Island and Olympic in London, Led Zeppelin III caught some critics off guard in 1970, but it's aged beautifully.
Side one still rocks: "Immigrant Song" with Plant's Viking war cry, the strutting "Celebration Day" and the slow-burning "Since I've Been Loving You," with John Paul Jones on organ. Side two is where the folk takes over, from the gathering storm of "Gallows Pole" to the gentle "Tangerine" and "That's the Way." It's the sound of the biggest band in the world refusing to repeat itself.
