Labi Siffre's 1975 soul-folk gem Remember My Song, home of "I Got The...," later sampled by Eminem on "My Name Is."
Remember My Song is a cult favourite among crate diggers, thanks above all to "I Got The...," whose famous bass and keys riff became the backbone of Eminem's breakthrough hit.
London singer-songwriter Labi Siffre blended soul, funk, folk and gentle pop on this 1975 album, with guitarist Big Jim Sullivan co-producing. His warm voice and thoughtful songwriting shine on every track.
"I Got The..." grooves with a laid-back funk swagger before breaking into the riff hip hop fans know by heart, "Another Year" and "Old Time Song" are lovely, and the title track is a beautiful closer.
