Kiss's 1979 album Dynasty on 180g vinyl with a folded poster, home of the disco-tinged smash "I Was Made For Lovin' You."
This Back To Black reissue is pressed on 180g vinyl and comes with a printed inner sleeve, a 12-panel poster and a download voucher. Dynasty went platinum in five countries on the strength of "I Was Made For Lovin' You."
By 1979 Kiss had a live album and four solo records on the shelves, but no new studio album since Love Gun, so Dynasty was billed as the Return of Kiss. They brought in producer Vini Poncia, cut it at Electric Lady and the Record Plant in New York, and let a little 1979 into the room, with pop hooks, a disco pulse and a lot of shine on the guitars.
"I Was Made For Lovin' You" grew out of a Paul Stanley and Desmond Child song called Tonight, with a chorus Stanley wrote with Poncia, and it became one of the band's biggest hits around the world. Ace Frehley stepped up with three songs, including his swaggering take on The Rolling Stones' "2,000 Man" and "Hard Times," Stanley's "Sure Know Something" is a smooth, catchy follow-up single, and Peter Criss sings his own "Dirty Livin'."
Desmond Child went on to write hits for half the rock world, and the song has since been covered and sampled around the globe. It still fills dance floors that would never admit to owning a Kiss record, which is quite a trick in platform boots.
