About the album

Most bands worry about how an album ends. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard simply decided this one wouldn't. Nonagon Infinity is designed as a loop: every song runs into the next, and the last one feeds back into the first, so the record can in theory keep going for as long as you can. The band formed in Melbourne in 2010 and had been tightening this full-throttle sound on stage for years.

Stu Mackenzie wrote every song, and the band cut most of it with Wayne Gordon at Daptone in New York, with parts of "Big Fig Wasp," "People Vultures" and "Invisible Face" done in Melbourne and many of the vocals tracked in Michael Badger's bungalow. "Robot Stop" sets the pace at full gallop, "Gamma Knife" and "Mr. Beat" keep the motorik riffs coming, and "Road Train" hands everything back to the start.

It was their eighth album in about four years, and it turned a cult garage band into one of the busiest names in rock. Put it on repeat and, technically, it never finishes; we've had to start closing the shop anyway.
