200g pressing of King Crimson's 1969 debut, the album that launched prog rock: "21st Century Schizoid Man," "I Talk to the Wind," "Epitaph" and the title track.
In the Court of the Crimson King is widely credited as the first true progressive rock album, swinging from the ferocious "21st Century Schizoid Man" to the Mellotron-drenched majesty of "Epitaph." This edition is on heavyweight 200g vinyl.
King Crimson played their first gig in early 1969, opened for the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park that summer, and by October had put out a debut album that changed the course of rock. Robert Fripp, Greg Lake, Ian McDonald, Michael Giles and lyricist Peter Sinfield mixed hard rock, jazz, classical and folk into something completely new.
"21st Century Schizoid Man" is a brutal, distorted freak-out with jaw-dropping instrumental breaks, "I Talk to the Wind" and "Moonchild" are hushed and dreamy, and "Epitaph" and the title track are towering Mellotron epics. Barry Godber's screaming face on the cover is one of the most famous images in rock. An essential record.
