About the album

In 2015 Kid Cudi told the internet that Man on the Moon III didn't exist. Five years later, it did. The third chapter of the trilogy he began in 2009 picks up the story of Cudi against his alter ego, Mr. Rager, split into acts like the first two, and this time it ends with him winning back his peace. He had billed 2014's Satellite Flight as a prelude, so fans had been waiting a while.

He made it with the old crew: Dot da Genius, Plain Pat, Emile Haynie and Mike Dean, all of whom worked on the earlier instalments. "Tequila Shots" opens the door, "She Knows This" and "Show Out" with Skepta and Pop Smoke bring the swagger, "Sad People" and "Lovin' Me" with Phoebe Bridgers turn inward, and "Rockstar Knights" with Trippie Redd heads for the clouds, and "Lord I Know" closes the story on a hopeful note.

Critics singled out Cudi's songwriting and the album's later acts for praise. Eleven years after "Day 'n' Nite," the trilogy is finished, which is more than can be said for the shelf we bought to hold it.
