About the album

Kaytranada spent years as the Montreal producer other producers whispered about, flipping remixes on SoundCloud until his bounce was everywhere. When XL signed him in 2014, the plan was an EP; it kept growing, and two years later it turned into this 15-track debut.

The groove is all his: woozy house, boom-bap drums and warm funk chords that wobble just off the grid. "Glowed Up" with Anderson .Paak is a slow-burning standout, "Got It Good" brings back Craig David, "Drive Me Crazy" pairs him with Vic Mensa, "You're The One" glides with Syd, and Toronto's BadBadNotGood play on "Weight Off." The production keeps everything loose and warm. Instrumentals like "Bus Ride," with Karriem Riggins and River Tiber, and "Lite Spots" show he can carry a track on his own, no guest required.

He has gone on to win Grammys and work with just about everyone, but this is where his sound came together. He named it 99.9% to leave a little room for improvement, and the remaining tenth of a per cent is, as far as we know, still at large.
