About the album

Toronto future-R&B sensation the Weeknd has been threatening to retire (or at least retire the name the Weeknd and carry on as Abel Tesfaye) after his sixth full-length album. We'll see how that goes. You know pop stars and their "retirements." In any case, Hurry Up Tomorrow is apparently the conclusion of a trilogy that, unbeknownst to all of us, began with 2020's After Hours and carried on through 2022's Dawn FM, in much the same way that the Weeknd's original volley of 2011 online mixtapes, House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, was itself a trilogy.

"This is something that I have to do," Tesfaye told W magazine. "As the Weeknd, I've said everything I can say." A cinematic thriller of the same name, starring Tesfaye alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, came along with it. Whether it really is the end or just another reinvention, it's a sprawling, cinematic send-off, and it sounds great spread across two LPs.
