About the album

After One of the Boys made her famous, Katy Perry decided to keep it pop and find out whether she'd got lucky or was meant to do this. She brought in Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco, Stargate and Greg Wells, and turned a whirlwind couple of years into a record about young love, big nights out and self-belief.

"California Gurls" with Snoop Dogg is summer in a can, the title track looks back on her teens with a retro sheen, "Firework" became an anthem of self-empowerment, "E.T." goes dark and electronic, and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" covers the party and the morning after. "The One That Got Away" climbed to No. 3, which made it six top-five hits from one record.

It topped the chart here in Canada and won International Album of the Year at the 2011 Junos, and Rolling Stone later placed it among the 250 greatest albums of the 21st century so far. Most of us can sing it start to finish, whether or not we ever meant to learn it.
