Judas Priest's 1978 album Killing Machine, the leather-and-studs turn, with "Hell Bent for Leather" and "Take On the World."
Killing Machine is where Judas Priest got tighter, punchier and leather-clad, the record that set up British Steel and the band's heavy metal crown.
Here's the moment Judas Priest found the look and the sound at the same time. Around Killing Machine the band swapped flowing seventies stagewear for leather and studs, inspired by Rob Halford's own wardrobe, and the songs got leaner and harder to match.
Gone are the long fantasy epics of the earlier albums; in their place come short, sharp metal anthems like "Hell Bent for Leather," "Delivering the Goods," "Running Wild" and the stomping singalong "Take On the World." In the US it came out as Hell Bent for Leather, with a scorching cover of "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" added.
It was Les Binks' last studio album behind the kit. For a lot of metalheads, this is where classic Priest begins.
