About the album

Jack Johnson was a pro surfer before a wipeout sent him in another direction, and you can hear the ocean all over In Between Dreams. Recorded at the Mango Tree studio (that's the tree on the cover), it's a laid-back record of acoustic guitar, upright bass and brushed drums, with Johnson singing softly about love, family and not getting out of bed.

"Better Together" and "Banana Pancakes" became wedding and breakfast standards respectively, "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" was a radio hit, and the whole thing sold millions on pure good vibes. Critics weren't always sure what to make of it. Pretty much everyone else knew exactly what to do: put it on, open a window and relax.
