10th Anniversary Edition on opaque custard vinyl of Hozier's 2014 debut: "Take Me to Church," "Someone New" and "Work Song."
This is the 10th anniversary pressing on opaque custard vinyl. Hozier's debut went top ten in Canada, the US, the UK and Ireland, and "Take Me to Church" became a global phenomenon and a Grammy Song of the Year nominee.
When "Take Me to Church" broke out of Ireland in 2013, few people could have guessed that the lanky guy from County Wicklow with the gospel-sized voice was about to become one of the most enduring songwriters of his generation. His self-titled debut, made with producer Rob Kirwan, followed a year later and proved the single was no fluke: it's a rich, earthy mix of blues, soul and indie rock, shot through with gospel and folk.
"Take Me to Church" is the hymn everyone knows, but "Work Song" has become a wedding-playlist staple, "Someone New" and "From Eden" shimmer, and "Jackie and Wilson" swings like a lost '60s soul single. Ten years on it still sounds timeless, and this custard-coloured anniversary pressing is a lovely way to hear it.
