Why you'll love it

This Jungle Records edition on coloured vinyl uses The Found '77 Masters, mixes drawn from the band's own session tapes. L.A.M.F. reached No. 55 on the UK Albums Chart, and Robert Christgau counted it among the 1970s imports he loved.

About the album

Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, Walter Lure and Billy Rath came to London in December 1976 to join the Sex Pistols' Anarchy tour, landing on the very day the Pistols swore at Bill Grundy on prime-time television. Most of the dates were cancelled, but manager Leee Black Childers talked the New Yorkers into staying, reckoning England would suit them better, and after a few London gigs Track Records offered them a deal.

Six songs, among them "All by Myself," "Let Go" and "Get Off the Phone," were cut at Essex Studios with producer Speedy Keen, and the rest at Ramport, the studio owned by The Who, where Pete Townshend invited the band to appear as extras in Quadrophenia. "Born Too Loose," "Baby Talk," "Pirate Love" and "One Track Mind" are pure rock and roll swagger with punk teeth, Thunders' guitar slashing through the lot.

Childers later rescued the session reels from Track's offices, and in 1994 Jungle went through more than 300 mixes, with help from Thunders' friends Patti Palladin and Nina Antonia, to find the ones that sounded like the band. Antonia's notes said the best of them sounded as if they'd had a shower, a shave, a coffee and a cigarette, and this coloured vinyl has clearly had breakfast as well.
