Grandaddy's 2000 indie rock landmark The Sophtware Slump: "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot," "The Crystal Lake" and "Hewlett's Daughter." On blue vinyl.
The Sophtware Slump is Grandaddy's masterpiece, a lo-fi space-rock song cycle about humans, machines and nature that won wide critical acclaim.
Jason Lytle wrote and recorded much of The Sophtware Slump on his own in a remote farmhouse, and you can hear it: crackly synths, fuzzy guitars and lonely, beautiful melodies that drift between bedroom pop and widescreen prog.
The nine-minute opener "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot" is a sweeping suite, "The Crystal Lake" and "Hewlett's Daughter" are fizzing indie anthems, and "Jed the Humanoid" is a sweet, funny little gem about a homemade robot.
