About the album

Not many metal bands get to say their album outsold everything else in America for a week, but Gojira can. Fortitude was the best-selling album in the US (pure sales) in its opening week, debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Hard Rock and Top Rock charts.

Joe Duplantier produced it in the band's own New York studio, Andy Wallace mixed and Ted Jensen mastered. The French four-piece wanted something brighter and more cohesive than Magma, and they got it: "Born for One Thing" pummels, "Amazonia" mixes mouth harp and tribal groove into a plea for the rainforest, and "Another World" and "The Chant" soar.

Fortitude also topped the Hard Rock and Top Rock charts, and the French four-piece got the brighter, more cohesive sound they were after.
