About the album

Leeds' Gang of Four took punk's energy and plugged it into funk and dub: Andy Gill's sharp, spiky guitar, Dave Allen's rubbery bass, Hugo Burnham's tight drumming and Jon King's urgent vocals, all wrapped around smart, political lyrics about modern life.

"Damaged Goods" and "At Home He's a Tourist" are post-punk anthems, "Natural's Not in It" and "I Found That Essence Rare" are thrilling, and "Anthrax" closes things with gloriously jagged feedback. Its fingerprints are all over indie rock to this day.
