About the album

FKA twigs named this one after Melissa, her name for her own female energy, and spelled it in numbers to keep a little distance between the two. It arrived in August 2015 with a self-directed 16-minute film full of birth imagery, a blow-up doll and a vogue battle. It followed LP1, her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album.

Boots co-produced "Figure 8," "I'm Your Doll," "Glass & Patron" and "Mothercreep," and Tic worked on "In Time," written with Joel Compass. "I'm Your Doll" goes back to a song she wrote at 18, "Figure 8" premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show, "In Time" became the lead single, and the "Glass & Patron" video, which she directed herself, picked up two MTV VMA nominations.

The Independent's Andy Gill heard it as more focused than LP1, and Pitchfork gave it 8.6. Five songs in under 19 minutes, which is roughly how long it takes us to agree on the music for opening time.
