Why you'll love it

This indie exclusive comes on limited green bio-vinyl. The Grammy-winning producer behind Billie Eilish's records swapped the bedroom for a band in the room, and the title track came out as the lead single with a video by Isaac Ravishankara.

About the album

Finneas made his first solo album largely on his own and came away feeling he could have done better by the songs. So for the follow-up to Optimist he went the other way, calling himself hyper-collaborative and noting that, fortunately, most of his friends are producers.

The album came together in a run of live studio sessions in Los Angeles. Finneas sings and plays keys, synths, guitar and bass, with Aron Forbes on bass, Miles Morris on drums, Lucy Healey on keys and vocals, and David Marinelli on percussion. The title track has a big, rolling chorus, "What's It Gonna Take To Break Your Heart?" and "Little Window" show off his way with a ballad, and "Cleats," "Family Feud" and "Lotus Eater" give the band room to stretch.

Press notes described the aim as steering away from the bedroom producer mentality toward a classic studio band sound, and critics gave it generally favourable reviews. He announced it on Instagram in August 2024, which is how pop stars send out the wedding invitations these days.
