About the album

Ethel Cain's debut, Preacher's Daughter, built her a devoted cult following with its sprawling, cinematic tale of a young woman fleeing a small Southern town. Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You goes back in time to tell the story that came before it: a teenage first love in the Florida panhandle, slowly drifting towards heartbreak.

Musically it's patient and enveloping, mixing Americana, slowcore, folk, shoegaze haze and indie pop into long, slow-building songs that reward deep listening. "Nettles" and "Fuck Me Eyes" were the singles, "Willoughby's Theme" and "Tempest" are stunning, and the closing "Waco, Texas" is a sprawling, hypnotic epic. Put it on late at night and let it wash over you.
