About the album

Doja Cat named her third album after a planet she made up, and then made the case for moving there. Half of it was written in Hawaii in early 2019, and much of the rest came together during the pandemic, with Doja and longtime collaborator Yeti Beats executive producing and a deep bench of producers including Dr. Luke, Al Shux, Rogét Chahayed and Mayer Hawthorne.

The idea was that every song should have its own personality, and the album hops happily between pop, hip-hop and R&B. "Woman" opens on an Afrobeats-inflected bounce, "Kiss Me More" with SZA is a glossy, disco-tinged earworm, "You Right" with The Weeknd glides, and "Need to Know" and "Get Into It (Yuh)" show off her sharp, playful rapping. Ariana Grande, Young Thug and JID join the party too.

Planet Her finished 2021 as the tenth best-selling album in the world, and the deluxe edition earned Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Five years on, the planet remains open to visitors, and the light blue vinyl is about as close to the travel brochure as we can get you.
